Minister for Law and Justice Barrister Farogh Naseem on Monday extended a groveling apology to the former Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP), Anwar Mansoor Khan, after he categorically warned that "if Farogh Naseem unveils things, I'll do so too".

After the law minister said that there was no truth whatsoever in what the former AGP had been saying about the apex court judges being privy to the petition field by Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the former AGP had said: "...those who say 'I am lying', in fact are lying themselves".

In a bid to put a full stop to the controversies in the wake of ex-AGP Khan's resignation, the law minister said that "he apologizes to the ex-AGP, as he's like an elder brother to him".

Talking to journalists outside the Supreme Court building, he said: "Anwar Mansoor Khan is like an elder brother to me and I'm going to withdraw my statements against him".

Apropos reports that the law minister was against the appointment of Khalid Jawed Khan as the new AGP, he said that he had no objection to elevation of the new AGP.

Earlier, the minister told that Anwar Mansoor's statement in the SC was in his personal capacity and the government had nothing to do with it.

The law minister said that the government did not know about the arguments of the ex-AGP in the apex court.

"No one has appreciated the statement of Anwar Mansoor as all the judges are honorable for the government," he added.

Former Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan on Wednesday submitted a written apology note in the Supreme Court over his controversial statement.

Khan wrote that he had the highest regard and respect for the judiciary and he could not think of causing any adverse comment as to the honour, honesty and integrity of the apex court.

"I withdraw my statement made on February 18, 2020, and unconditionally apologise for having made the same," he wrote in his apology letter to the apex court.
