Famous mountaineer 'Little Karim' from Skardu needs immediate health support

• Little Karim holds one world record for climbing the 8,035m-high Gasherbrum 2 without supplementary oxygen

Famous mountaineer Abdul Karim, also known as Little Karim, has been admitted in Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Skardu where his condition has further deteriorated.

The famous veteran, who has quite a following among European mountain enthusiasts, has been battling a series of illnesses including jaundice and gallbladder stones. Now admitted in CMH, Little Karim requires immediate health support.

According to local media, Little Karim hails from the small village of Hushe in the Ghangche District of Gilgit-Baltistan. He is a veteran mountain porter who, through the 70s and 80s, served as western tourists’ guide on high-altitude expeditions, braving the north’s unforgiving cold all the while carrying as much as 25kg of luggage on his back.

He also holds one world record for climbing the 8,035m-high Gasherbrum 2 without supplementary oxygen, The Express Tribune reported.
