Factory output down a revised 1.6pc: Japan

Published Updated

TOKYO: Japan's industrial production in February fell by a revised 1.6 percent from the previous month due to a slowdown in machinery and auto output, government data showed Tuesday.

The fall came after the nation's factory output rose by a revised 0.9 percent in January and 2.3 percent in December, the economy, trade and industry ministry said in its monthly revised report.

Falling output of machinery, automobiles and electronics production equipment led to the decline in February, according to the industry ministry.

The ministry had earlier estimated factory output fell 1.2 percent in the month.

The ministry also said that a survey of firms showed they expect a 3.4 percent rise in factory output in March and a decline of 0.3 percent in April.
