  • Khan says opening of corridor will result in earning foreign exchange and creating jobs in different sectors.
  • Once opened, Kartarpur Corridor will facilitate visa-free movement of Indian Sikh pilgrims.
  • Kartarpur Sahib will become a major religious hub for the Sikh community and will boost local economy.

(Karachi) Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that construction work on Kartarpur Corridor project is in its final stages and will be open to public on November 9.   He added Pakistan is all set to open its doors for Sikhs from across the globe.

In a Facebook post, the prime minister said world's largest Gurdwara will be visited by Sikhs from across India and other parts of the world.

He said this will become a major religious hub for the Sikh community and will boost the local economy. Imran Khan said it will also result in earning foreign exchange for the country besides creating jobs in different sectors, including travel and hospitality.

Earlier, Pakistan decided to invite former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh to inaugurate the Kartarpur Corridor on the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Sahib celebrations in November.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the decision has been taken after detailed consultations with all stakeholders. He said the inauguration of the corridor was a huge thing and Pakistan wants Singh to represent the Sikh community.

The Kartarpur Corridor will connect Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan's  Kartarpur with the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district and facilitate  visa-free movement of Indian Sikh pilgrims, who will have to just obtain a  permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib, which was established in 1522 by Guru  Nanak.
