Govt committed to socio-economic development of southern Punjab: PM

 KHANGARH: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Saturday said the PPP-led government was committed to socio- economic development of southern Punjab and will utilize all available resources for this purpose.

Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating Khangarh bye- pass, the Prime Minister said with the inauguration of by-pass the longstanding demand of the people of area has been fulfilled.

Prime Minister Gilani also welcomed Chaudhry Qurban, his family and other associates into the PPP fold and said their joining would further strengthen the party, adding, Chaudhry Qurban and his companions would be given respect in the party.

The Prime Minister also assured to fulfil all the demands of the people of area including the construction of a bridge on Khangarh-Shujabad road.

He announced the upgradation of passport office in Khangarh and said the on-going sui gas project in the area would be completed with the provision of required funds.

The Prime Minister on this occasion also announced that campuses of Bahauddin Zekriya University, Allama Iqbal Open University and COMSATS would be established in the area.

Gilani said river dykes affected during the last year's floods in the area would be revamped, as part of a project currently underway in other parts of the country affected by the floods.

He also announced the regularization of the contract employees of Thermal Power Station in the area and mentioned that the government has already regularised the services of thousands of contract and daily-wages employees in the country.

The Prime Minister also announced the revival of OPF school in Khangarh alongwith the restoration of school employees.
