Judges' detention case: IHC turns down Musharraf's plea to remove anti-terrorism sections

Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday turned down former president General Pervez Musharraf (retd) plea seeking removal of anti-terrorism sections from the judges' detention case.

The former president had filed an application seeking removal of anti-terrorism sections from the judges' detention case, which is filed against him. A two-member bench including Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb heard the case and reserved the judgment. Later, the two-member bench rejected Musharraf's application due to non-pursuance.

Former Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui had included anti-terrorism sections in the first information report (FIR) registered against Musharraf in connection with the judge's detention case. The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had declared former military ruler Musharraf a proclaimed offender in the judges' detention case.

The case is based on a complaint filed by Advocate Mohammad Aslam Ghumman against Musharraf, which was registered with Secretariat police station on August 11, 2009. Musharraf is accused of confining over 60 judges including then chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry after imposing emergency on November 3, 2007.
