National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights met here on Monday in the chair of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The special secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, briefed the committee about ongoing human rights violations by Indian forces in the Indian-occupied Kashmir.

The committee was also informed about the steps being taken to highlight the human rights violations before international forums and foreign governments. The committee was further briefed on the report on human rights violations prepared by UN Human Rights Office.

It was informed that the existing situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir is the worst. Pakistan is completely supporting the people of Kashmir politically and morally. The government emphasized that the issue must be resolved in accordance with the United Nations resolutions.

The government has taken up this issue internationally at all levels which are supported by China, Turkey and other countries. The issue has also been discussed in General Assembly of United Nation. Human Rights Commission including the US senators criticized the human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir. The committee recommended that detailed briefing on the steps taken by the government to deal with the human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir may be given in its next meeting.

The committee approved "the Zainab Alert, Response and Recovery Act, 2019." On April 24, 2019, the PTI government laid the bill before the National Assembly with a purpose to make provisions for raising alert, response and recovery of missing and abducted children.
