Senior journalist Abul Hasanat died here last night. He leaves behind his wife, a son and three daughters. He will be buried in the Sakhi Hasan graveyard, North Nazimabad, after Zuhr prayers today. Born in 1950 in Karachi, Hasanat was the eldest child of former Business Recorder Executive Editor the late Abul Akhyar. There was an uncanny resemblance between the two. Arguably, they had uncannily similar demeanour.

Hasanat did his masters in philosophy from University of Karachi in 1973. He started his career as information officer in Sindh government. During his long journalistic career that spanned over four decades, Hasanat worked for various publications, including Leader, Morning News, Saudi Gazette, Dawn, Business Recorder and the Express Tribune. Hasanat was widely known as an inspiring team leader. He had deep appreciation of what actually constitutes the craft of journalism.
