KARACHI: President Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) Irshad Bukhari on Monday while talking to PPI said that the transporters would go on strike from Tuesday over the recent price hike in CNG prices and for not getting compensation for their burnt buses.
He said that the strike is called for 'indefinite period'. He appealed to Rickshaw Taxi Association, Sindh Intercity Buses Owners Association, Karachi Goods and Carrier Association, Sindh Truck and Trailer Association and other unions for strong support to their strike against extreme hike price of petroleum products.
He said that transporters were the backbone of financial activities of the metropolis, adding that the country was on the verge of total economic collapse due to rotten policies of the government.
He threatened the government that if the prices of CNG and petroleum products were not reduced then they would be forced to contact transporters of other provinces as well and would give a nationwide protest and strike call.
Irshad Bukahari said that they would not accept any insignificant reduction, adding that the prices of petroleum products must be brought back to its erstwhile position.
It is pertinent to mention here that the government had recent increased the prices of petrol by Rs 8.02, CNG by 11.98 for region one and Rs 9.93 for region two while the prices of Kerosene Oil and other petroleum products were also increased.
Since then, countrywide protests have been launched by various sectors while the decision has been immensely criticized.
