HYDERABAD: Sindh Forest Minister Syed Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi has asked the officers of the Department to initiate action against the land grabbers and remove all encroachments in forest areas of the province at the earliest.
The officers should prepare a comprehensive strategy and remove all encroachments from forest areas, else action will be taken against those who failed to do so, the Minister warned while presiding over a meeting here on Saturday evening.
The Minister said that it was also learnt that after grabbing the forest areas, the grabbers are cutting the trees, which needs to be stopped with immediate effect.
The tree cutting in forest areas will not be harmful for environment, but such practice could make the protective embankments of River Indus vulnerable, therefore strict action should be initiated against those who are involved in this menace, he said.
The Minister also issued directives for speedy completion of all ongoing development schemes by June 2012.
He informed that the provincial government is taking interest to provide a natural atmosphere to wildlife and strengthen the protective embankments of the river by launching various development schemes in forest areas. The completion of these development schemes will also help in improving the socio economic condition of the poor people of the areas, he said.
Sindh Secretary for Forest Mushtaq Memon and Chief Conservator Forest Mir Nadir Ali Talpur briefed the Minister about the pace of work on ongoing development schemes.
