Prime Minister to preside Energy Conference on April 09 in Lahore

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani will preside over an Energy Conference on April 9 in Lahore, to be attended by the Chief Ministers of four provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan.

All the stakeholders have been invited to attend this important Energy Moot, to be hosted by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The meeting will find ways and means to overcome the energy crisis, facing the country.

A pre-conference meeting was held here Monday at the Prime Minister Secretariat in which four Working Groups were formed which would develop consensus regarding energy issues and present its reports at the conference, in the provincial capital of Punjab.

During the deliberations, the Conference will focus on diverse aspects of the energy crisis and work out formula for electricity and gas distribution among the provinces on equitable basis in a fair manner.

Earlier talking to newsmen here at Chaklala Air Base on Saturday before leaving for China, the Prime Minister said the Federal Government accepted the invitation of the Punjab Chief Minister to hold the energy conference in Lahore, who would be the host and billed it a positive sign.

Prime Minister Gilani said all stakeholders should contribute their input at the conference because it was in the national interest to hammer out a solution to the energy crisis.

He said the business community in Punjab was facing energy shortage and raising hue and cry on this issue, therefore, the province was selected for holding the energy conference.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has already directed the technical sub committee of the Energy Committee to remove bottlenecks in import of Liquified Natural and Petroleum Gas, to help the country to meet its energy needs.
