KARACHI: A high level law and order meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, here at the CM House.
The meeting was attended among others by Sindh Home Minister, Manzoor Hussain Wasan, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Syed Sohail Akber Shah, I.G.P Sindh, Syed Mushtaq Shah, Deputy Director General Rangers, Brig. Rafik, Additional I.G.P Karachi, Akhtar Gorchani, and others.
A CM House statement said that the Chief Minister Sindh termed the violence resorted to yesterday by miscreants and criminals as not only illegal but also against aspirations of the masses.
He said that eight persons died and more than 40 vehicles were torched by miscreants, which included a van of Police department.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that the matter and incidents are to be thoroughly investigated while, it is the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to take prompt action against violators.
He said that Police and Rangers had made full efforts to control the incidents of violence and have arrested 38 accused found indulging in crime on the spot, when they were torching the vehicles.
The Chief Minister maintained that the city of Karachi is not only capital of province but also the economic hub of the country, while the people of Pakistan economically depend on Karachi city.
He said that "Karachi city belongs to all of us and when there will be peace, there will be investment and people from all parts of world would come forward for investment, as such the peaceful Karachi is essential for progress of Pakistan".
He appreciated the measures and efforts of law enforcement agencies and directed to have prompt vigilance on the activities of criminals and miscreants.
He added that police and Rangers (who have been delegated police powers) should take necessary action under criminal law.
He hoped that LEAs should always be alert and prepared to combat the situation so that such criminals are eliminated.
The Chief Minister Sindh said that there will be dialogue on political level and all concerned groups will be taken on board so that peaceful atmosphere for Karachi is ensured.
He said that law enforcement agencies have to play an important role with objective to strictly maintain peace in the province particularly in Karachi.
Earlier, Sindh Home Minister informed that 42 vehicles were torched yesterday during violence and eight persons died, for which an enquiry committee headed by Sessions Judge (South) Karachi has been constituted which will submit its findings and report.
He stressed upon Rangers and Police to be vigilant so as to take prompt action against criminals and extortionists.
I.G. Police Sindh, informed that out of eight causalities reported yesterday, five persons were killed in violence, while the three other persons died due to other reasons.
