RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) on Tuesday has issued schedule of six hours a day load shedding for industrial sector during the peak hours i.e. from 6PM to 12 in the night.

According to the sources, decision has been taken to facilitate the domestic consumers during the peak hours. The domestic consumers were into a big trouble for last few days due to load-shedding for long hours, reaching to 20 hours a day. As a result, harsh reaction from the consumers was seen particularly in Lahore, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi, causing two sudden deaths in a day.

The textile industry is facing worse situation as it is suffering from the short supply of gas and also because of less power supply.

The MD Pepco Rasul Khan Mehsud was trying his best to continue with exemption to the prime users of textile, cement and other industries Punjab. However, a sudden drop in the generation capacity due to dead levels of Tarbela and Mangla has lead to a reversal to the decision.

Therefore, power supply to industry would remain suspended during the peak hours throughout Punjab until the power supply improves.

Meanwhile, a tractor trolley hit high intensity electricity poll on the Sheikhupura Road a night before. It resulted into power outages for 12 hours a day for all industrial units situated on the Sheikhupura Road. The problem still persists despite all sincere efforts of LESCO staff to redress power supply from other sources. However, erection of poll would take some time that would add salt to industry injuries further, said sources.
