SARGODHA: Commissioner Sargodha Zafar Iqbal Monday said that wheat purchase process had been launched here and 342,000 metric-ton wheat would be purchased at 36 centres across the division.

Deputy commissioners (DC) of all four districts including Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali and Bhakkar have been directed to monitor purchase process and ensure transparency in purchase.

Talking to the media, he said that all-out efforts were being made to exclude the role of middleman so that farmers could be given their due rights.

He said that a toll free helpline 0800-48048 has also been established here for lodging complaints and it would be operational round-the-clock, while directions have also been issued to the Revenue, Food departments and Market committee for ensuring all basic facilities at all purchase centres.

He stated that Rs 1300 rate per 40 kilogram wheat had been decided by the government and payments to farmers would be ensured on time, for which a computerised system had already been installed here.

Deputy Director Food Haq Nawaz Chohan said total 13 wheat purchase points had been operational here in the district Sargodha and 134,000-metric-ton wheat purchase target has been set, and there are three points in district Khushab to purchase 19,000-metric-ton wheat.

A total of six wheat purchase centres are also operational in district Mianwali to purchase 57,000-metric-ton wheat and 132,000-metric-ton wheat would be purchased at 14 centres, established in district Bhakkar, he added.
