MIRPUR (AJK): AJK Tourism and Archaeology Secretary Midhat Shehzad Tuesday pledged to turn the picturesque Azad Jammu and Kashmir into a vibrant and most attractive hub for tourism both for local and foreign tourists.
“The AJK government was taking necessary steps to provide better facilities to the domestic and international tourists, visiting the scenic territory of the Himalayan state”, she said while briefing a visiting 34-member delegation of 46th Common Training Programme in the State’s metropolis.
“AJK is one of the safest places in the country and has some of the breathtaking beautiful sights and landscapes”, she underlined.
She was of the view that tourism would significantly be promoted under tourism corridor.
Midhat said that a 2-day International Congress of Islamic history, culture and heritage of Kashmir is being held in Islamabad on April 4-5 to invite the attention of international tourists towards the lovely mountains, forests sights and picnic resorts in Azad Jammu Kashmir besides the northern parts of the country.
The Secretary Tourism said that steps were being taken under public and private partnership for promotion of tourism industry in Azad Jammu Kashmir. “A series of tourism projects would be initiated for promotion of tourism under this venture under an integrated phased development program” she revealed.
Midhat informed the delegation that a huge natural potential coupled with a conducive environment and colossal opportunities of tourism was available in the State. She said government was implementing a comprehensive programme on awareness and information about the huge potential of tourism of AJK.
“We are kicking off community based programme for the growth of tourism in AJK, she elaborated.
She said: “We are expecting an influx of international tourists in AJK after recent lifting of the NOC restriction by the government of Pakistan for the foreign nationals seeking a visit to AJK.
She underlined that an integrated development programme was in progress to provide them maximum latest facilities to the tourists visiting AJK.
The head of the delegation was presented a memorial shield by the Secretary on behalf of AJK Government.
