LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, in a meeting on Wednesday, accorded approval to wheat procurement policy for the current year. It was decided in the meeting that wheat would be purchased from farmers at the rate of Rs 1,300 per maund (40 Kg).
The meeting decided that receiving of applications for distribution of gunny bags would be started from April 8 and continue till April 15, while distribution of gunny bags would commence from April 21.
Addressing the meeting, the CM said that rights of wheat growers would be protected, particularly of small-scale farmers. He said that provision of fixed wheat rate to the farmers would be ensured and distribution of gunny bags would be made transparent.
Similarly, all necessary facilities would be provided to farmers at wheat procurement centres and complaint cells would be established at provincial, divisional, district and tehsil levels.
The secretary food gave a briefing about salient features of wheat procurement policy.
Provincial ministers Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht, Malik Nauman Ahmad Langhrial, Samiullah Chaudhry, secretaries concerned, head of special monitoring unit and high officials attended the meeting.
