ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to introduce the new local government (LG) system in the province in one month.

The prime minister was chairing a review meeting about progress on the introduction of new local government system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The meeting deliberated upon the structure of the new LG system.

The prime minister said the local people had the capability of understanding and resolving their problems in a better way. The experience of village councils in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was very successful and the system would be further improved to make the people more empowered at the local level, he added.

Imran Khan said unfortunately administrative structure had remained the biggest problem of the country, due to which the people in most of the areas remained deprived of health, education, clean drinking water and other basic facilities.

He said in the new LG system the local representatives would be empowered so that they could resolve the problems of people at the local level.

The meeting was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman, PM’s Advisor Muhammad Shahzad Arbab and Special Assistant Iftikhar Durrani, provincial ministers Shahram Khan Tarakai, Sultan Khan, Taimur Salim Jhagra, Hasham Inamullah and Atif Khan, and officials of the departments concerned.
