ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Tuesday said the government wanted to build the first media university, which would have a dedicated technological hub for the future generations.

Chairing a meeting regarding the establishment of Media University here, the minister said the Internet age had changed the paradigm with manifold increased importance of ubiquitous social media.

“It is imperative to learn the innovative skills needed to practice and participate in the media industry,” he stressed.

Fawad said the landmark Media University was being established by merging the training academies of Pakistan Television, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation and the Information Service. Its curriculum would be devised in consultation with all the stakeholders covering wide range of subjects, including the courses on drama production, film and cinema studies, he added.

“The students will not only be imparted education about news media and other journalistic disciplines but will also be trained in the best digital technological practices prevalent in the media sector,” the minister said.

Fawad sought the assistance of renowned telecom company Huawei and its partnership in the venture of establishing a technical school as part of the Media University.

Saif Chi, the country head Huawei, showed his keen interest to make contribution to the project and briefed the meeting in detail regarding the company’s ongoing collaboration with different educational institutes in Pakistan.

Besides Saif Chi, the meeting was also attended by Secretary Information and Broadcasting Shafqat Jalil, Higher Education Commission Chairman Tariq Banuri and other senior officials.
