HYDERABAD: Government Secondary Teachers Association (GSTA) took out a protest rally here on Saturday asking the Sindh government to accept a set of their demands.

Led by GSTA Sindh President Haji Ashraf, a large number of participants walked from Circular Building to Hyderabad press club.

Ashraf announced that the whole province's government secondary school teachers would gather in Karachi on March 28 for a sit-in protest outside the CM House.

"The teachers have felt compelled to take the issue to the streets because of incompetence of the Sindh Education Department and its bad policies," said Ashraf while addressing the rally.

He bemoaned that the provincial government had been procrastinating from a long time the steps required to address problems and demands of the teachers.

Ashraf said the teachers had rejected the introduction of management cadre system because it would affect the promotions of the teachers.

"The PPP's Sindh government is trying to handover the administrative control of the education department to the people who are unaware of the education system and the teaching," He deplored.

He said the situation had worried all the teachers who were averse to the policy of working under the management control of what they consider as the outsider officials.

On behalf of the GSTA, he appealed the Supreme Court and Sindh High Court to take notice of the issue.

The other office bearers of GSTA including Ahmed Ali Solangi, Muneer Ahmed Halepoto, Mubarak Ali Abbasi and others also spoke.
