hina-kharABU DHABI: Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar on Tuesday urged the Pakistani community to work hard to project soft image of Pakistan and further strengthen the bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

During her official visit to the UAE to attend the 10th session of the Joint Ministerial Commission meeting on February 27, the Foreign Minister visited the Embassy of Pakistan here and interacted with the Pakistani community living in the UAE.

She also visited the newly renovated consular hall of the embassy and inspected the consular services provided by the embassy, including Machine Readable Passport (MRP), NICOP and attestation of documents.

Ambassador of Pakistan Jamil Ahmed Khan briefed the Foreign Minister on the improvements made in the consular section over the past one year.

The Foreign Minister, while taking a round of the consular section, applauded the devotion of young officials who are trying to address the difficulties of Pakistani community and urged them to ensure the provision of flawless services to the members of the community.

The minister took note of the constraints of resources and promised to make resources available to the embassy.

During her interaction with the community, the Foreign Minister touched upon some of the areas of Pakistan's foreign policy and highlighted the challenges facing Pakistan.

She also briefed the community on her meeting with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, during the 10th session of the JMC meeting where the two Foreign Ministers discussed matters of interest to both countries.

The Foreign Minister took questions from the community members.

Replying to a question on the resolution presented in the US House of Representatives on Balochistan, Khar explained that it was an individual act of a member of the US Congress and it did not reflect the policy of the US government.

She said, "it is the universal norm that, like any sovereign country, we would not like any interference in our internal matter by any external entity."

The Foreign Minister commended the overseas Pakistanis for sending increasing number of valuable remittances which, in her view, reflected the growing confidence in the current democratic dispensation of Pakistan.

The community thanked the Foreign Minister for taking out some time from her busy visit schedule and for sharing her valuable thoughts with them.

The community also thanked the ambassador for extending them an opportunity to interact with the Foreign Minister.
