The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday issued notices to caretaker ministers who failed to submit their assets' details, saying they could be barred from working for violating the law. The ECP said in a statement that all members of caretaker governments at the centre and provinces were bound to submit details of their assets and liabilities to the Commission within three days of assuming their offices.
The statement said notices were issued to all those members of caretaker cabinets who have not submitted their assets details. They were told so why not to stop them from working till implementation of the law because they could not submit their asset details as per the law. The ECP said that caretaker Prime Minister Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk (retd), interim chief ministers of all four provinces and six (federal) ministers have submitted their asset details so far. Two ministers from Punjab and one from Sindh have submitted their asset details.
Earlier, the ECP extended the polling hours for the general elections by one hour and now eligible voters may cast votes from 08:00am to 06:00pm. The decision was taken by the electoral body to ensure maximum participation by voters.
In a letter written to the ECP by the PTI Spokesman Fawad Chaudhry, the party had demanded extension in polling hours for the upcoming elections. The letter stated that the intensity of heat-wave has increased and the extension in polling hours would facilitate the general public, especially the elders and patients.
