Sindh Water Commission (SWC) on Friday directed District Municipal Corporations (DMCs) of Karachi to increase the human resource and machinery by three times to clean the nullahs in view of monsoon rains in the metropolis.
The commission mandated by Supreme Court of Pakistan and headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim (retd) deliberated upon the cleanliness of nullahs in the city in the hearing at Sindh High Court (SHC) premises. Municipal Commissioner Saifuddin, all deputy commissioners of districts of Karachi as well as provincial Secretaries Health, Local Government and Works appeared in the proceedings. The SWC head issued orders for increasing the human resource and machinery by three times to carryout the task of cleanliness of nullahs on fast track basis. In view of expected monsoon rains in the city, the increase in human resource and machinery is imperative in the city. He also directed for release of additional funds amounting Rs 1 million to each DMCs to ensure the cleanliness of nullahs. Provincial authorities told the commission that required funds for this task have been released.
