This is apropos a Business Recorder news item "Economic challenges: Caretaker govt hamstrung by lack of mandate" carried by the newspaper yesterday. According to it, the caretaker government has neither the mandate to take policy decisions nor the resources to provide any fiscal support to the export sector and withdrawal of additional charge from the caretaker finance minister is not expected to make any difference.
That the lack of mandate and required resources, therefore, has weakened the position of caretaker finance minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar in relation to country's presence on Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Although Dr Akhtar worked harder, she could not ensure removal of Pakistan's name from FATF's grey list.
