Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed lower on the last trading day of the week, Friday. BRIndex100 lost 14.3 points or 0.32 percent to close at 4,469.56 points compared to 4,483.86 points Thursday. BRIndex100 touched intraday high of 4,495.24 points and intraday low of 4,458.05 points. Overall, volume stood at 130.157 million. K-Electric Ltd was the most traded company in BRIndex100 with a volume of 12.078 million shares.
BRIndex30 opened at 22,150.20 points. It touched intraday high of 22,284.87 points and intraday low of 22,109.93 points to settle at 22,209.23 points, which was 59.03 points or 0.27 percent higher than previous close. Volume at BRIndex30 stood at 95.658 million.
The benchmark KSE-100 index declined by 87 points or 0.21 percent to close at 41,911 points down from 41,998 points a day earlier. Trading activity slightly improved as daily volumes on the ready counter surged to 166.083 million shares as compared to previous 159.817 million shares.
The market capitalization increased by Rs 30 billion to Rs 8.665 trillion. Out of total 341 active scrips, 170 closed in positive, 160 in negative while the value of 11 stocks remained unchanged.
Commenting on the market situation, Ahsan Mehanti of Arif Habib Corp said that stocks closed lower amid pressure in scrips across the board after Moody''s statement on external account vulnerability on account of surging foreign debt. "Investor concerns for hike in domestic gas prices, foreign outflows and pending energy sector circular debt played a catalytic role in the bearish close," he added.
KE was the volume leader with 12.078 million shares. It gained Re 0.23 to close at Rs 5.68 followed by Silk Bank Ltd that went up by Re 0.20 to Rs 1.36 with 9.583 million shares.
Colgate Palmolive and Pak Tobacco were the top gainers with Rs 93.53 and Rs 77.40, respectively to close at Rs 3,149.00 and Rs 2,230.00. Rafhan Maize and Bhanero Tex were the top losers with Rs 151.00 and Rs 42.49, respectively to close at Rs 7,650.00 and Rs 807.49.
BR Commercial Banks Index closed at 8,636.88 points with a net positive change of 50.3 points with total turnover of 33.022 million.
BR Cement Index closed at 4,591.24 points with a net negative change of -55.44 points and 23.221million turnover.
BR Oil and Gas Index closed at 5,361.56 points with a net negative change of -22.67 points with a total turnover of 5.491 million.
BR Tech. & Comm. Index closed at 1,158.67 points with a net positive change of 10.78 points with a total turnover of 15.137 million.
BR Power Generation and Distribution Index closed at 5,994.56 points with a net positive change of 94.48 points or a percentage change of 1.6 with 15.766 shares.
