Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shahbaz Sharif claimed on Tuesday that they have saved Rs 682 billion in different projects which have no parallel example in the country's history. Briefing the media regarding performance of the PML-N government on Tuesday, Shahbaz said the huge amount has been saved after negotiation with the lowest bidder in different projects of power sector, Lahore Orange Train, Punjab Safe Cities and other mega projects.
He claimed that the PML-N has recovered the sagging economy and pulled the country out of darkness of load shedding and paved the way for progress and development. Regarding his statement that the caretaker government will be responsible for load shedding, Shahbaz clarified that they had established power plants and if gas and other material is not provided to these plants, then there would be load shedding.
Shahbaz said the federal government under the leadership of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif brought about marked improvements in areas of counter-terrorism, energy and economy. Pakistan armed forces and other law enforcement agencies rendered countless sacrifices to reduce terrorism to its lowest point, he said, adding: "Today Pakistan is island of peace. It was the political leadership which decided to start operation in Karachi and Rangers worked hard to bring peace there."
He said lifestyle of the people has been improved due to improvement in education, healthcare and social sectors. "We tolerated PTI's allegations day and night but responded by working hard. The past five years showed the nation who is right and who is wrong," he said.
Shahbaz claimed that the province of Punjab took the lead in instituting a culture of efficiency, transparency and savings in the execution of public development projects. He also mentioned the UNDP report which says Punjab is leading in development as compared to other provinces.
According to him, Punjab has transformed the public transport infrastructure through three Metro bus systems, the upcoming Orange Line Metro Train Project & Speedo buses. Highlighting the power situation in the country, Shahbaz pointed out that Punjab has set up power projects out of its own resources in addition to overseeing CPEC and federal power projects that were completed "in record time". The electricity generated from these projects has been added to the national grid, he said.
He further said: "It is PML-N that completed land acquisition for Diamir Basha Dam with Rs 100 billion." He said the PML-N will continue to invest its passion and energy in building dams and water reservoirs. "But what did the PTI do for construction of any hydropower project in KP?" he questioned. The PTI-led KP government had produced -6 MW power project only.
Talking about reforms in education sector, Shahbaz noted that under the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, scholarships worth Rs 17 billion have been distributed among 350,000 underprivileged on merit. He said the province brought 90,000 children working at the brick-kilns to schools by offering their families financial incentives. He said the Punjab has set up 19 universities and 200 new colleges during the tenure. He said the KP government should tell masses about its achievements in education and other sectors.
In the health sector, Shahbaz said Punjab established state-of-the-art Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre. Two kidney transplants have been carried out successfully while free medical treatment to kidney and liver patients will save them from travelling to India for transplant, he said.
Shahbaz said the PML-N will take part in the next elections on the basis of public service record. "We have proved by working day and night that the PML-N is the only political party which has the ability to solve people's problems."
Shahbaz Sharif said PML-N's tenure has been linked with transparency, quality and public service. H said every single step of Punjab government was taken for the betterment and welfare of the people. Answering a question, he said his only and last meeting with Reham Khan was held way back in 2014 when she was working for PTV. He further said the nation has become quite mature and now it should evaluate that who has served them and who has wasted their time. Regarding relations with India, Shahbaz expressed his resolve to defeat India on economic front by working hard.
