This is apropos a Business Recorder editorial "Emergent measures required of Caretakers" carried by the newspaper on Friday. The newspaper has concluded its argument by saying that "it is imperative for the caretaker government to have a non-partisan economist as the finance minister able and willing to evaluate the true state of the economy based on realistic data and then proceed to identify whether issues ranging from the unsustainably high: debt, budget deficit and the current account deficit are issues that can be postponed beyond the caretakers' term. If not, then the caretakers need to take the three national parties on board and form a consensus on measures required to forestall the looming economic logjam."
But the question is: how do you define a non-partisan economist? Non-partisan person means someone who is not biased, especially towards any particular group. Do we have a single economist in the country who is not biased or partisan?
