FCCI (Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry) Standing Committee (SC) on Wildlife Conservation & Fishing Promotion has demanded a modern and full-fledged Zoological and Botanical Garden in Faisalabad to preserve indigenous flora and fauna in addition to promoting the cultural to love nature in the fast expanding industrial, commercial, business and educational conglomerate of Pakistan.
Chairing a meeting, Chairman SC Habib Ajmal said that the ultimate objective of the purposed Garden is to provide a serene environment which could also facilitate recreation starved people provide recreation. "It will also convince our youth to love plants and wildlife which is an integral part of our ecology", he added.
He said that the expansion of industrial and commercial activities has entirely changed the ecological landscape of this region. He said that fast depleting forests and fauna has created an alarming imbalance and concerned departments must pool their energies to protect it from any possible extinction. He said that Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) should enrich its parks with indigenous trees, herbs and shrubs in addition to exotic flowering plants in its parks.
Similarly linear plantation is also imperative along existing roads which will provide natural habitat to the birds and animals of this region. He said that PHA should also focus on the birds which are forced to migrate from their natural habitat due to unfavorable climatic and ecological conditions.
Hence they should provide them natural environ where they could breed and brood in addition to getting the abundance of food. He further said that consumption of fish has increased manifold in this district bursting with population of 8.5 million and in order to meet the local demand, fish is being imported from Karachi and other alive rivers of Pakistan.
He said that fish farming is a profitable business and local investors should also develop private fishing ponds to earn sizable profit from their investment. He said that local office of fisheries department could also help them in launching this business by providing fish seed and technical advice. The meeting was also attended by Vice Chairman Raghib Zia, Syed Maratib Ali Shah, Choudhary Tallat Mehmood, Ubaidullah Sheikh, Yasir Rafique and Baber Hussain.
