Chinese Consul General in Lahore Long Dingbin during his visit to the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center, announced to provide scholarships to help the institute in training of its staff, including nursing and paramedics and also donated US 50,000 dollars to the institute as a goodwill gesture by the People's Republic of China.
During the visit, Chinese consul general met with President and CEO of the PKLI, Prof Dr Saeed Akhter and other management team members and discussed possibility of collaboration. The CG and his Chinese companions were glad to know that the PKLI is focused on reducing the burden of kidney and liver diseases, including eliminating hepatitis from Pakistan by raising awareness about preventive measures in addition to providing free or subsidized treatment facilities to the poor at par with the rich without any discrimination.
The visitors expressed that PKLI is an excellent project that would definitely raise the standard of healthcare delivery in Pakistan. Prof Dr Saeed Akhter informed the visitors about prevalence of hepatitis in Pakistan and China and desired that both sides should join hands to stamp out this deadly disease through collaboration in cutting-edge research and sharing of modern technology.
The CEO also briefed the delegation that the Punjab government will provide full financial support to the hospital to operate 500 beds for the first three years. Afterwards, the government will give 25% recurrent budget and the hospital will generate 75% of the budget each year through various activities including diagnostic services, donations, zakat, patient care, hotel, shopping mall etc. Dr Jehangir Abbas, Associate Medical Director, Dr Muhammad Mubeen, Associate Medical Director, Dr Hafiz Ijaz Ahmad, Director Medical Education, Dr Masooma Saeed, Consultant Anesthesia, were present on this occasion.
