A judicial magistrate on Friday allowed bail to three men involved in hurling shoe on Nawaz Sharif at a ceremony in Jamia Naeemia, Garhi Shahu. The magistrate granted bail to prime suspect Munawar Hussain, his accomplices Abdul Ghafoor and Muhammad Sajid. Earlier, the counsel for the suspects said his clients had no political motive. He said their act was in reaction to the amendment in Khatam-e-Nabuwat (finality of prophethood) law by the parliament and prayed the court to release them on bail.
Qila Gujjar Singh police had registered a criminal case against the suspects with section 7 of Anti Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997. However, an anti-terrorism court had ordered the police to delete section 7 of ATA from the FIR. The court had referred the case to court of ordinary jurisdiction which allowed them bail.
Munawar Hussain had hurled his shoe on the ousted premier when he came to the rostrum to address the gathering. The co-suspects also tried to throw shoes but security personnel had overpowered them.
