Despite deployment of beefed up security, cricket fans had to buy PSL's finale tickets at cent percent higher than actual prices outside the gates of National Stadium, here on Sunday. The social media sites were used for black marketing of tickets because Karachiites were more than eager for attending the event as they had to wait for nearly a decade for return of cricket to their city of lights. They saw they had no choice but fell to compulsion to buy tickets even at three times higher than actual prices of tickets. Some of them, having not even an iota of deception, also lost their hard-earned money by buying fake tickets.
A source in Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had previously predicted that the tickets couldn't be bought by the general public as it was clear to them all tickets would soon be sold.
A news channel also reported that a person was also duped into buying counterfeit tickets, with a price tag of Rs 500 ignoring the fact that the lowest price of the PCB's original tickets for the PSL finale was Rs 1000/ticket.
Earlier, yayvo.com crashed within first hour to respond to flooding customers' clicks when PSL tickets were put on sale. The online service already chocked. The Express Centres also failed to provide tickets to the fans, who accused, "tickets are being sold in black." Talking to Business Recorder, head of Corporate Communication of TCS, Muhammad Rahat Hussain, confirmed that the website [yayvo.com] has malfunctioned as there was an unprecedented traffic.
"I failed to book tickets online as the website was not responding to requests," a cricket fan, Saleem Khan, said as he struggled to get even a few from the assigned venues. The dejected fans had also blamed the concerned officials of TCS for selling tickets to their near and dear ones. "What a great effort by the PCB to sell tickets online as the website crashed within minutes! What a technology that when the site restored, all tickets were sold out," an angry fan exclaimed.
The courier service said that due to security reasons there was a maximum cap of five tickets per CNIC and the buyers will have to personally buy the tickets showing their original CNIC. But, Karachiites wonder how tickets were sold out in no time both online and at the Express Centres. The PSL finale tickets had four categories amounting Rs 1000, Rs 4000, Rs 8000 and Rs 12,000, respectively.
