As summoned, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, is appearing before Joint investigation Team of the National Accountability Bureau Lahore in Ashiana Housing scandal today to record his statement regarding his alleged ownership of Paragon Housing Society.
The NAB has also summoned Saad's younger brother Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique to appear before NAB probing unit on March 26. Both of these brothers are close confidantes of Sharif brothers According to reports, the investigations into the Ashiyana Housing Scam had led NAB to Paragon Housing Society as well.
NAB had already questioned Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Secretary to Prime Minister Fawad Hassan Fawad about affairs of the Punjab government's Ashiana housing scheme and arrested ex-Director General Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Ahad Khan Cheema and six other accused persons.
NAB alleged that that they were involved in embezzlement, fraud, corruption and misuse of authority in the project, which had caused a loss of millions of rupees to the government exchequer.
About grounds for arrest of Ahad Cheema, NAB said that he being an LDA director general had processed and awarded the contract of Rs 14 billion to Lahore CASA Developers, a joint venture, which was ineligible for the contract. The bureau cited the action as misuse of authority. NAB also alleged that the accused Cheema received illegal gratification in the form of 32 kanals of land (valuing Rs 30.090 million approximately from the owners of Paragon City (Pvt) Ltd).
