Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry has said Pakistan wants to see a stable and peaceful Afghanistan and this is a shared objective for Pakistan and the United States. He stated this while delivering a lecture at an event of the Women's Foreign Policy Group held at Pakistan Embassy in Washington.
The ambassador stressed the importance of maintaining good relations between the two countries, although there are differences in approach on the way forward in Afghanistan. He also highlighted Pakistan's successes and achievements, both at the domestic level and in the foreign policy domain during a time of rapid global change.
Earlier, Aizaz Chaudhry had said that economic statistics had improved because of operation against terrorism and Pakistan's security situation had also improved significantly. He said that Pakistan was against terrorism and conspiracies, adding that the wrong perception about Pakistan needed to be discarded and it should be viewed in a new light.
The ambassador told the journalists that military operation had cleansed terror-ridden areas while developmental works were underway too. "A positive image of Pakistan has emerged. The US and other various global partners are investing in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)," he said. He also reiterated that Afghanistan's instability had affected Pakistan and the solution to the Afghan conflict lied in the hands of local stakeholders.
