Prices of essential kitchen items witnessed a reduction during this week past against the preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday. The survey observed that the price of live chicken further went down from Rs 5,400 to Rs 5,200 per 40kg in the wholesale market which was being sold at Rs 160 against Rs 165 per kg in the retail market, while price of chicken meat reduced from Rs 285 to Rs 275 per kg. The eggs prices witnessed a slight increase from Rs 90 to Rs 92 per dozen in the wholesale market which were being sold at Rs 105 per dozen in the retail market.
Tomatoes price went down from Rs 130 to Rs 120 per 5kg which was available at Rs 35-40 against Rs 40 per kg in the retail market, while onions' price further went down from Rs 160 to Rs 150 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 40 against Rs 45 per kg in the retail market.
Garlic price remained stable at Rs 550 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 150 per kg in the retail market. Ginger price further went down from Rs 575 to Rs 550 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 150 per kg in the retail market. Local lemon price remained unchanged at Rs 800 per 5kg while Chinese lemon price went up from Rs 350 to Rs 370 per 5kg, while lemons were being sold at Rs 110-180 per kg in the retail market.
No significant change was observed in the prices of meat, fish, milk and non-perishable food items. Best quality rice was available at Rs 130 per kg, wheat flour at Rs 750 per 20kg bag and sugar was being sold at Rs 60 per kg. Prices of all the major pulses remained stable as white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs 180 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 200 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range of Rs 120-140 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 120 per kg and red lentils (Masoor) was available at Rs 110 per kg.
Price of spinach remained unchanged at Rs 100 per 5kg in the wholesales market while its one bundle weighing one kilogram was being sold Rs 25 in the retail market and mint price went down from Rs 250 to Rs 200 per bundle in the wholesales market while a small bundle of 1/4 kg mint was being sold at Rs 25 in the retail market. Capsicum price went up from Rs 250 to Rs 500 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 130 per kg against Rs 60 per kg in the retail market; peas price further went down from Rs 300 to Rs 170 per 5kg in the wholesale market, which were being sold Rs 40 against Rs 70 per kg in the retail market, taro's (arvi) price remained unchanged at Rs 200 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 50 per kg in the retail market, carrot price went up from Rs 100 to Rs 120 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 30 per kg in the retail market; and price of one pack weighing 8kg of radish went down from Rs 120 to Rs 90 per pack which was being sold at Rs 15 per kg in the retail market.
Bean price went down from Rs 380 to Rs 350 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 80 per kg in the retail market; okra price went up from Rs 320 to Rs 450 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 130 against Rs 80 per kg in the retail market and price of ridge gourd (tori) remained stable at Rs 325 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 80 per kg in the retail market. Turnip was being sold at Rs 120 per 5kg in the wholesales market which was being sold at Rs 35 per kg in the retail market; cauliflower price further went down from Rs 160 to Rs 150 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 45 per kg in the retail market, while cabbage price remained unchanged at Rs 120 per 5kg, which was being sold at Rs 35 per kg in the retail market.
Price of brinjal further went up from Rs 280 to Rs 300 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 75 against Rs 70 per kg in the retail market and cucumber price went down from Rs 250 to Rs 170 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold Rs 45 against Rs 60 per kg in the retail market.
Price of apple gourd (tinda) remained stable at Rs 320 per 5kg, which was being sold at Rs 80 against Rs 85 per kg in the retail market; bitter gourd (karela) price further went down from Rs 750 to Rs 700 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 160-180 per kg in the retail market; and green chilies price remained stable at Rs 400 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 100 against Rs 125 per kg in the retail market.
During this week, fruits prices witnessed mixed trend as good quality local banana was available at Rs 120 per dozen, normal quality in the range of Rs 60-80 per dozen, and Indian banana with an increase of Rs 20 per dozen was being sold at Rs 180 against Rs 160 per dozen. Guava price remained stable as good quality guava was being sold at Rs 80 per kg and normal at Rs 50-60 per kg, local pomegranate price went up from Rs 150 to Rs 175 per kg, while Kandhari pomegranate price increased from Rs 225 to Rs 240 per kg. Prices of various qualities of oranges also went up which were available in the range of Rs 70-180 per dozen.
While new arrival good quality strawberry price reduced from Rs 300 to Rs 275 per kg and that of normal quality strawberry decreased from Rs 250 to Rs 220 per kg, while price of Chinese pear went down from Rs 200 to Rs 180 per kg. Normal quality of white apple was being sold at Rs 100 against Rs 80 per kg, Pakistani Kala Kolu apple was available at Rs 150 per kg while Iranian at Rs 160 per kg; golden apple was being sold at Rs 110 against Rs 130 per kg, Ambari apple was available at Rs 90 against Rs 70 per kg while Chinese and other imported apples were being sold in the range of Rs 200-250 per kg.
