Dairy farmers on Thursday staged protest demonstration for an increase in the commodity price here in Bhens Colony area of the metropolis. Bringing a number of cows and buffalos the milk sellers and Cattle Farmers Association's members blocked National Highway for traffic, urging the administration to fix reasonable rates with immediate issuance of notification to this effect.
Slogans demanding price hike were also painted on the bodies of the buffaloes. Meanwhile the situation turned violent when protesters began pelting stones towards police deployed on the site. In response, police resorted to baton-charged the protester and fired tear shells to disperse them. As a result, the protesters fled the scene leaving their animals behind. It may be relevant to mention here that the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has imposed a ban on the use of hormones injections to increase cow milk production.
