Brazilian farmers have harvested a smaller share of their soyabean crop this year as work is progressing more slowly than last year in important states, according to consultancy AgRural on Friday. Brazil harvested 10 percent of the soyabean area through Thursday, below last year's 19 percent, as Parana's beans are still not ripe, and rains this week disrupted work in Mato Grosso, Brazil's largest grain producer.
In Parana, Brazil's second biggest producing region, only 1 percent of the area has been harvested so far, compared with 13 percent at this time last year. "There is an expectation the harvest will advance quickly in the west of Parana from next week," said Agrural. Even with clear skies in that state over the past few days, the beans were not ready to be harvested, AgRural said. Mato Grosso has collected 30 percent of its soyabeans, but rains caused delays, AgRural said. In the north of the state, some grains were damaged by high humidity, it added.
