Foreign Office on Friday confirmed 11 dead bodies of Pakistanis who died on board the migrants' boat which capsized off the coast of Libya, have been identified and are expected to be dispatched to Pakistan within next three days. Sharing details of the incident during his weekly media briefing, Spokesperson of Foreign Office Dr Mohammad Faisal said that as per a Pakistani survivor of the incident, 32 Pakistanis boarded the boat on January 31, 2018.
"Any figure circulating in the media except this, is mere speculation," he said. He said that 11 bodies have been recovered and identified, and their relatives have been informed.
There are two bodies which have been found but their identity has not been confirmed yet, he said, adding that identification documents of five Pakistanis have been found, out of which one Rehmat Khan s/o Muhammad Inayat bearing CNIC No 34202-2896695-9, Passport No VG4106952 is alive. The bodies or whereabouts (if alive) of the remaining four Pakistanis are unknown, he said.
"The 11 recovered and identified bodies will be dispatched to Pakistan, depending upon flight availability, most likely within the next three days," he further said.
The following 11 persons' bodies have been identified: (i) Ikram ul Haq s/o Azmat Ullah, resident of Mandi Bahauddin; (ii) Muhammad Qasim Baig s/o Muhammad Amjad, resident of Mandi Bahauddin; (iii) Waleed Akram s/o Muhammad Akram, resident of Gujrat; (iv) Mirza Ghulam Fareed s/o Mirza Ghulam Nabi, resident of Rawalpindi; (v) Tanzeel ur Rehman s/o Muhammad Younis, resident of Sialkot; (vi) Muhammad Aziz s/o Abdul Rehman, resident of Sargodha; (vii) Luqman Ali s/o Shoukat Ali, resident of Gujrat; (viii) Kashif Jamil s/o Muhammad Jamil, resident of Gujrat; (ix) Azmat Bibi w/o Muhammad Ismail, resident of Gujrat; (x) Mazhar Hussain s/o Mumtaz Hussain, resident of Gujrat; (xi) and Farhan Ali s/o Muhammad Sharif, resident of Gujrat.
There are also six more Pakistani whose dead bodies have either been found or having incomplete documents, namely Zabi Ullah s/o Imtiaz Ahmed, resident of Gujrat [body found]; Shah, unknown [body found]; Muhammad Ismaeel s/o Muhammad Inayat, resident of Gujrat [body found but not yet confirmed]; Saad Ali s/o Muhammad Ismail, resident of Gujrat [not found]; Hamza Farooq s/o Ghulam Farooq, resident of Gujrat [not found]; while Rehmat Khan s/o Muhammad Inayat, resident of Gujrat, was found alive.
About the efforts of Pakistan Mission and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he said that two officials of the Mission have been permanently deputed at Zawara where the dead bodies and documents were washed ashore.
He said that the ministry has deputed an extra officer from a nearby Pakistan embassy in Egypt to help in the identification and repatriation process. He said that an 'Emergency Libya Cell' has been established in the ministry to oversee and coordinate the identification and repatriation efforts, adding that necessary funds have already been transferred to the Mission to keep the dead bodies in cold storage and also for their repatriation.
