The Punjab government has dropped four mega projects due to the paucity of funds, said sources. According to the sources, a summary forwarded to the Chief Minister Punjab for the release of Rs 5 billion for these mega projects has been turned down. They said the projects have been shelved keeping in mind the time left in fresh elections.
However, the sources said the construction of Shaukat Khanum flyover would be completed well ahead of elections and a fund of Rs 1 billion has been approved in this regard. It may be noted that the Punjab government has already launched clean villages programme that would also attract huge funds in the days ahead.
Moreover, the government planners have diverted all their attention towards early completion of the Orange Line Metro Train project after a clearance from the apex court. Meanwhile, the citizens are experiencing successive interruption of power supply due to development work on the project. Also, as many as 23 deaths of labourers have been reported due to non-adherence to the safety measures.
