Pakistan is producing up to 70 percent auto parts of cars & HCVs, 90 percent of tractors, motorcycles and three wheelers locally for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to export and supply in domestic market. The OEMs include Suzuki, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Hino, Nissan, Isuzu, Daewoo, Faw, Massey Ferguson and Fiat. The new entrants cleared under Automotive Development Policy 2016-21 are also contacting local vendors for production of their parts.
This was stated by Saeed Iqbal Khan, former Senior Vice Chairman and Basharat Javed Awan, member managing committee PAAPAM while briefing a group of (21) trainee officers from Ministry of Commerce belonging to 24th Specialized Training Program (STP) who visited PAAPAM Head Office Lahore the other day.
It may be added that field visits are an important part of their training program which helps the trainee officers getting familiar with the working of trade organization that leads to better understanding of problems faced by the business community.
Highlighting the role of Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) in development of auto industry, Saeed Iqbal briefed the trainee officers about the history of automotive industry's emergence, right from the year 1959, its growth and rapid development to the present status in the country.
