The inaugural ceremony of the three-day Faiz International Festival held at the Alhamra Art Centre on Friday noon. Human Rights and peace activist I A Rehman inaugurated the festival along with Salima Hashmi, Muneeza Hashmi and Adeel Hashmi. Rehman paid tributes to the services of revolutionary poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz for human uplift and vowed to continue with his mission.
The festival aims at the propagation of what Faiz stood for. The local writers, activists, musicians and artists will gather from across the world to celebrate one of the greatest poets of Urdu language by sharing their ideas and works. Renowned literary figures of Pakistan including travelogue writer and novelist Mustansar Hussain Tarar, poet Amjad Islam Amjad, poetess and script writer Zehra Nigah, historian of Urdu literature and professor at FC College Dr Arfa Syeda Zahra, Dr Amir Jaffri, Yasmeen Hameed, Haroon Khalid, and Dr Tahir Kamran will be there at the festival to make it more literary.
There will also be a session of music in which famous singers including Jawad Ahmed will be present. On the occasion, different segments of entertainment including classical dances, Kathak performances, reading out poetry of Faiz Ahmed Faiz , Dastangoi, and dramas will also be staged by Zambeel Theater. Faiz Ahmed Faiz, born in 1911 and died in 1984 is one of the most celebrated poets of Urdu language and was nominated for Nobel Prize for Literature. He got Lenin Peace Prize from Soviet Union in 1962.
