The Lahore High Court on Friday sought reply from the Punjab Home Secretary and inspector general of police by November 28 on a petition filed by Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council of his own faction, against withdrawal of his security by the police. Earlier, his counsel Azhar Siddique argued before the court that police withdrew security of his client in reaction to his criticism on an amendment about declaration of belief in finality of prophethood.
He said the impugned act of the government was based on malafide and without jurisdiction. The counsel said the petitioner had been facing serious life threats at the hands of terrorist organizations and the government was also aware of the situation. He said a representation filed before the chief secretary for restoration of the security squad had not been decided so far. He therefore prayed the court to direct the respondents to restore security squad of the petitioner.
