Remembering Phillip Hughes: A sad day in world of cricket

The day November 27 marks one of the darkest days in world cricket, after the game lost one of its brightest stars in a freaky cricketing incident in 2014.

Exactly, four years ago, Australian batsman Phillip Hughes died tragically after he was struck on the back of his neck while batting for South Australia in a Sheffield Shield game against NSW at the SCG.

The blow to the head led to a 'catastrophic' injury, which caused 'massive' bleeding to his brain, as Hughes critical condition remained unchanged for two days but ultimately proved fatal.

“We had a nation united, I think we had the world of cricket united on that story. We remember the Kiwis had stopped playing, the England rooms were a very sombre place that night they said when they learnt the news,” said Peter Lalor, the co-author of Hughes’ biography, quoted Macquarie Sports’ Radio’s Halftime with James Willis.

“It spread through the cricket community and it was an awful time, it was apparent very early that Phillip wasn’t going to get better.I think I was pretty much aware that night he wasn’t going to live and if he did it wasn’t going to be worth it,” he added.
