Though a general assumption is that Wi-Fi speeds are better than mobile internet data connection, this might not be the case for every country. A recent study listed countries where mobile internet exceeds speed limits as compared to Wi-Fi, Pakistan being one of them.

For some countries where Wi-Fi connection means speedy, fast internet, in other countries it doesn’t. In a new study by OpenSignal – firm specializing in wireless coverage mapping – it was revealed a list of 33 countries, including Pakistan, cellular data works faster on average than Wi-Fi hotspots.

The difference between the download speeds of the go as far as 13Mbps. Australia was ranked as the first country to have a difference of 13.0Mbps, where its Wi-Fi download speeds were 21.6Mbps, its mobile download speed was 34.6Mbps.

Pakistan, on the other hand, was ranked at eighth number with Wi-Fi download speed of 3.9Mbps as compared to mobile download speed of 6.1Mbps. This marked a slightly noticeable difference of 2.3Mbps between the two.

Meanwhile, Lebanon, Qatar and Oman took the second, third and fourth spots respectively after Australia, having a difference of 12.3Mbps, 11.8Mbps, and 11.0Mbps correspondingly. Countries including Turkey, France, Saudi Arabia, and Greece were also in the list.

The list mainly consisted of multiple African, European, Asian, Latin American, and Middle Eastern nations. However, the study also revealed that there were countries where Wi-Fi was considered better than cellular networks. These countries included the US, Hon Kong, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.

It is expected that after the introduction of 5G networks, the cellular data connection might get a further speed boost. This research has made people rethink the assumption of Wi-Fi as the best network.
