Duty on solar charge controllers revised

The Directorate General Customs Valuation (DGCV) has revised the customs duty on Solar Charge Controllers (SCC) under Section 25(7) of the Customs Act, 1969. According to the revised valuation ruling, the Directorate initiated an exercise for determination of customs values of SCC under section 25 A of the Customs Act, 1969. For the purpose, all stakeholders were invited for the meeting on March 2, 2017. Importers were requested to furnish all relevant documents to determine the customs duty of SCC. However, no documents were submitted on or before the said meeting.
Later, the valuation methods given in Section 25 of the Customs Act, 1969 were followed to arrive at customs values of SCC, which was not applicable. Then, transaction value method provided in Section 25 (1) was also applied but the result was unchanged. Thereafter, market enquiry as envisaged under section 25(7) of the Customs Act, 1969, was conducted. For the purpose, different markets were surveyed repeatedly. Consequently, the Customs values of Solar Charge Controllers have been determined under Section 25(7) of the Customs Act, 1969.
