Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education (SH & ME), Khawaja Salman Rafiq expressed annoyance over slow pace of construction work on Teaching Hospital Gujranwala (THG) and directed to accelerate the speed of work on the project.
He expressed these views during a briefing on construction project of new DHQ hospital. He said that no negligence and delay will be tolerated in development work. He said the chief minister has provided huge funds and is taking personal interest in the project.
There is no shortage of funds and the work should be carried out on the project in two shifts to complete the project in stipulated period so that timely provision of health facilities could be ensured to the people and load of patients could be reduced on District Headquarter Hospital, he added.
Superintendent Engineer Building Sajid Amin while giving briefing said that the provincial government has provided Rs 700 million for 500 beds DHQ Teaching Hospital to be constructed at a cast of Rs 2415 million. The work is continuing on the project and its first phase will be completed by December 2017 and OPD will also be made functional.
The Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner Gujranwala to submit report after conducting inquiry into delay in the completion of project. He also directed him to personally supervise all the matters and also monitor the speed of work so that this public welfare project could be completed on time.
Earlier, the minister inspected different wards during his hour long visit to DHQ Hospital Gujranwala and inquired from the patients and their attendants about provision of medicines and other facilities. He visited OPD, ICU, Central Pharmacy, Cardiac Unit, Dialysis Unit, PCR Lab and Diagnostic Center. He directed the concerned to immediately repair the out of order CT scan machine and make it functional within a week besides installation of new MRI machine at the earliest.
President Chamber of Commerce Saeed Ahmed Taj said the building is being constructed for the installation of new CT Scan Machine in DHQ Hospital with the cooperation of Patient Welfare Society and Chamber of Commerce. The machine has arrived at Karachi port and will soon be made functional, he added.
