National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Tuesday approved complaint verification filed against Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Asad Qaisar over his alleged involvement in corrupt practices and accumulating assets beyond known sources of income. An official of the NAB said that the decision to this effect was taken at the Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of NAB, presided over by Chairman NAB Qamar Zaman Chaudhry.
He said that in this case, accused Qaisar was alleged for misuse of his authority, illegal appointments and having assets beyond known sources of income. The complaint against KPK assembly speaker was received by NAB Peshawar from a native of his hometown Swabi and the regional office sent it to the NAB headquarters. According to a statement issued by the NAB spokesman, the EBM also decided to file four corruption references and authorise four investigations, besides it approved four inquiries.
The bureau approved to file corruption reference against Shahzar Shamoon, former secretary Land Utilisation Department, government of Sindh, and others. The accused persons were alleged for illegal allotment of state land measuring 530 acres, misuse of authority, corrupt practices, which caused a loss of Rs 53 billion to the national exchequer.
It said that another reference was approved against Syed Ali Raza, former president National Bank of Pakistan, and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority and criminal breach of trust by granting and revising financing facilities in the National Bank Bangladesh branch, thus causing a loss of US$ 185 million to the national exchequer.
A corruption reference was approved against Ghulam Haider Jamali, former IG Sindh Police, and others. Jamali was alleged for misuse of authority and illegal appointments in SRP Base Hyderabad; thus causing a loss of Rs 504,661,664 to the national exchequer.
According to the statement, the EMB also decided to file a reference against Javaid Raza Bhutta, principal engineer PACE, Islamabad. Bhutta was alleged for accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.
The investigation was authorised by the EBM against officers/officials of Capital Development Authority (CDA) and others regarding the affairs of SAFA Gold Mall. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority; thus causing a loss of Rs 193.3 million to the national exchequer.
The second investigation was authorised against Nazar Abbass, Al-Abbass International Educational Consultants and others. In this case, the Australian High Commission lodged a formal complaint against Al-Abbas International, an educational consultancy firm based in Pakistan, for cheating the students at large by defrauding them of their money through a scam and caused a loss of Rs 10.20 million.
Third investigation was authorised against Malik Muhammad Rafiq Khar, former MPA, revenue officials and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for illegal allotment of state land and misappropriation of public property. According to the spokesman, the NAB decided to authorise four inquiries. The EBM authorised an inquiry against management of university of the Punjab. In this case, the accused persons are alleged for misuse of authority and illegal appointments in Punjab University in violation of rules.
The NAB also authorised an inquiry against M/S Pak Rock Oil Trading Corporation (Pvt) Ltd. The matter was referred by financial monitoring unit of the State Bank under section 31-D of NAO 1999 as suspicious transition report (STR). Another inquiry was authorised against the management of Sustainable Environment & Development Foundation (SEDF), Hyderabad. State Bank through financial monitoring unit referred the case as suspicious transition report (STR) to the NAB under 31-D of NAO.
The EBM approved forth inquiry against MNA Sultan Mehmood Hanjera and others, tehsil Kot Addu, district Muzaffargarh. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for illegal allotment of land in their name at Thana Chowk, Kot Addu, on lease, and thereafter illegally got transferred in their names and further sold out.
