As many as 75 students of the Sindh University (SU) received cheques under the HEC need-based and districts Zakat Ushr scholarships at a ceremony held at Senate Hall, Ghulam Mustafa Shah Administration Building of University of Sindh Jamshoro here on Monday. The event was organised by director of SU student financial aid (SFA) Dr Hakim Ali Mahesar, while vice chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad presided over the event and distributed the cheques among the deserving students.
A total number of 42 deserving students both male and female of bachelor and master degree programs of 2K14 batch received the cheques of an amount of Rs 48000 each under HEC need-based scholarship as 3rd installation. Thus, another 33 students domiciled various districts of the province received the cheques of an amount of Rs 48000 under district merit scholarship.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat on the occasion highlighted various schemes initiated on the campus to facilitate the students, including the award of laptops, start of skill development program and other basic facilities to the students of the varsity.
He said the fee reimbursement scheme was promoting higher education, creating economic empowerment and opportunities for on-job training. The initiative of the Higher Education Commission in this regard was commendable, he added.
Dr Burfat said that the growing youth population could be turned into an asset by providing them healthy opportunities like these schemes adding that there was no dearth of talent at Sindh University but the thing he had to do was to provide the students with the facilities. On the occasion, the director SFA Dr Hakim Ali Mahesar said that a total amount of Rs 2.6 million was distributed among 75 students of the varsity under two different schemes in 3rd installments. He said his office would soon distribute scholarship cheques among those meritorious students who had not received the same as yet.
