Jamaat-e-Islami ameer, Senator Sirajul Haq has criticised the Punjab government over racial profiling of Pakhtuns and announced that his party will hold a jirga of Pakhtuns at its headquarters, Mansoora, Lahore on Friday (today) to discuss all serious issues and challenges being faced by Pakhtuns in Punjab.
"We would also discuss how to tackle the various difficulties and challenges being confronted by Pakhtuns while working for their survival at this critical juncture," he said. "We strongly oppose their targeting", JI chief said while talking to media persons in district Swabi on Thursday. The JI head who belongs to Pakhtun belt said that it was totally an absurd policy to harass Pakhtuns in Punjab province, as at this juncture we need unity in our ranks more than ever and therefore we must avoid polarisation and confrontation.
In reply to a question he said that Pakhtuns have every right to travel to and live in any part of the country, enjoy complete liberty and constitutional protection. Any step against Pakhtuns would backfire, he warned. Answering to a question he said that they have planned to hold talks with Punjab government, and find out the reasons behind racial discrimination and targeting citizens who belong to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal regions.
Regarding the menace of corruption, he said that Pakistan needs clean and pious leaders and those who indulge in malpractices could not help resolve the challenges being faced by the country and make the country economically strong and prosperous. "The corrupt leaders could not pullout the country from various problems and mounting challenges," he said.
When majority of people put their hands together against a few corrupt figures, no doubt there would be an opportunity to root-out corruption from various organs and institutions of state, he said. The nations who managed to controle corruption and concentrated on progress had achieved extraordinary economic feat on the one hand and a respectable place in the world community on the other, he said.
