Nepali Ambassador to Pakistan Sewa Lamsal Adhikari said on Tuesday that his government would offer visa to the Pakistani businessmen on their arrival in his country. The ambassador stated this during her visit to the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) regional office.
Sewa Lamsal Adhikari said the decision is meant to promote trade relations between the two countries. "Pakistan is one of the most important countries for Nepal to promote regional trade, especially in perspective of SAARC regime but the logistics issues, lack of communication and proper marketing were some hurdles in giving a boost to the bilateral trade," she said.
Adhikari stressed the need for exchanging business delegations to enhance trade and promotion of investment opportunities between the two sides. She invited the FPCCI members to participate in the forthcoming Nepal Investment Summit scheduled to be held in Katmandu on 2nd and 3rd March, 2017.
FPCCI Vice President Manzoor-ul-Haq said that despite huge trade potential, the trade volume between the two countries is very low. He said the connection and connectivity problem is one of the basic hurdles in trade promotion. He discussed various opportunities of joint ventures and said agriculture and tourism are the key sectors where both the countries could collaborate with each other. Pakistan and Nepal should approach various airlines to start direct flights from Karachi and Lahore via Kathmandu in order to facilitate businessmen and establishing people-to-people contact, he added.
Vice President SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Iftikhar Ali Malik said that Pakistani products, particularly rice, leather and leather goods, carpets, pharmaceuticals, textiles, pashmina lawn, textile made ups and allied products have great potential in Nepal which needs to be marketed properly. He said a number of Pakistani investors are interested to enter into the joint ventures with the Nepalese investors.
