So quietly and altruistically model UN children from Pakistan rise over and above self and become models in peace, harmony and justice for the world statesmanship and those at the helm of world affairs. The Literary and Public Society (LPSS) of the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) recently conducted its historic event CBMUN 17 where students come from different schools, colleges and universities unravelled global controversies through negotiations playing as diplomats. The event was organised to create awareness among students about the prevailing circumstances in world affairs. The aim was to give this world an amazing youth aware of rising controversies around the globe and its solutions.
This year, CBMUN'17 accepted applications from some of the most reputed institutions of Karachi: IBA, Scabbiest, DOW, FAST, Agha Khan College, NUST, Karachi University, The City School, Beacon House, Mama Parsi, Habib University, Whales College, BVS, Bahria College and others.
CBMUN'17 comprised the following committees interacting so closely: 1. Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) 2. Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) 3. Special, Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL) 4. UN Security Council (UNSC) 5. Pakistan National Assembly (PNA) 6. UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) 7. UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) 8. World Trade Organisation (WTO) 9. Underworld Mob Wars (UMW) and 10. UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Committee.
CBMUN'17 was highlighted by some exciting social events like a musical evening, named "Hymn of the Harmony" with a perfect blend of the two genres by the great Sabri Brothers and Umair Jaswal, in order to pay homage to our deceased legends, Amjad Sabri and Junaid Jamshed. Next after a day of heated debates, delegates enlivened with a carnival called "Munferno" with adventurous rides, exciting water fights, a DJ-driven musical extravaganza.
The conference concluded by a "Bon voyage-travel around the world" themed formal dinner - a splendid feast for the delegates. Shields and awards for participants were aplenty amid the kind and inspiring presence of IoBM's Talib Karim, Rector, Ms. Sabina Mohsin, Executive Director Administration and Irshad Karim, Procter.
Sheikh Muhammad Irfan, faculty advisor, LPSS leads the exemplary teamwork from LPSS members comprising Muhammad Usman Baig, President; Sheikh Mustafa, Executive VP; Rida Siddiqui, VP; Eimaan Fatimah, VP; Afif Ather, General Secretary; Ayesha Binte Amin, General Secretary.
It was a thought provoking and truly revealing event with school children and college students from various institutions setting practical examples for world leaders and politicians coexisting with contradictory view points through mutual understanding, tolerance, conflict resolution and accommodation towards a better and brighter world.
