Speaker Punjab assembly Rana Iqbal on Monday started hearing of reference against chief minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif filed by Opposition leader Mian Mehmood-ul-Rasheed seeking disqualification of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for 'misusing' authority.
According to the details Mehmood-ul-Rasheed filed reference against chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif under article 62 and 63 of the constitution of Pakistan for his alleged corruption, misuse of power and concealing assets. Mian Mehmood-ul-Rasheed while talking to media alleged that the CM preferred family interest to national interest and violated his oath. He alleged the CM, in violation of Supreme Court's orders, and shifted Chaudhry Sugar Mills and Ittefaq Sugar Mills. He said Shahbaz Sharif was not 'Sadiq and Amin', so he had no justification to remain in office.
He also said that if speaker will not send the reference to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) till February 19 otherwise it will be transferred to the commission automatically. Ejaz Chaudhry, former Punjab PTI president, on the occasion said the ownership of Ittefaq and Chaudhry Sugar Mills belonged to Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Hassan Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz, Begum Kulsoom and Hamza Shahbaz.
While arguing before speaker Dr Babar Awan alleged that chief minister misused his authority by shifting his family's Ittefaq and Chaudhry Sugar Mills to the areas in Punjab banned for the purpose as the Lahore High Court had declared the shifting an illegal act in 2016. Babar Awan requested the speaker to forward the reference to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the disqualification of chief minister Punjab.
